MfL (Modern Foreign Languages)
At Upton, our children learn Spanish. We aim for our students to be given opportunities to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language. This enables them to build a foundation to learn further languages, equipping them to study and work in other countries.
Through the scheme Speekee, we allow children to develop their listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and intercultural understanding. All learning is mapped against the National Curriculum. The skills, key vocabulary and learning outcomes can be found within the Spanish progression map for each year group.
We aim to inspire children to question and think critically and have threaded the Oxfam Global Citizenship curriculum through this to enable children to relate to other cultures. The Global Citizenship areas that we will explore through teaching Spanish are:
- Value and diversity
- Respect for people
- Communication
- Critical and creative thinking
