EYFS Curriculum & Home Learning

At this very challenging time for us all, we are providing what we hope is a range of engaging and accessible learning activities for your children. On the left side of this page you will find the year groups listed, under which we upload fortnightly packs of learning (weekly for EYFS). We of course understand that as a family at home, this is not replicating new learning at school in any way and you will only be able to do what your circumstances allow on a daily basis.

Our home learning provision aims to guide children to different learning opportunities. Some opportunities set will feel like the learning they are more used to in school and some will be suggested to develop their own life skills or own areas of interest. This is not designed as home-schooling; these are contingency measures that we are all adapting to and we wish to clarify that it is your choice as to how much your child engages in the learning. With so many free trials, website links and ideas being posted on social media and through e-mail, we understand that it can become overwhelming in deciding what to do for the best for your child.

When your child comes back to us, they will come with a multitude of new learning and skills that you have given them no matter how much or little of the guidance you have used. We will pick up the job where we left off and ensure your child makes good progress no matter what their starting point.  Please base your decisions for your child at this time on what you believe to be the right balance for you as a family and know that we will respect and support this fully.

After much thought, we have decided not to set our normal homework – as this is not normal school – but will continue to set the home learning guidance as during the coming two weeks, many schools are remaining open and some of you may want to continue a routine you have started. However, it is your choice to use the ideas set or to have the two-week break.

At Upton Primary School, we believe that learning is most engaging for children when it is planned in a cross-curricular way, taking on board their interests and therefore, enabling children to make links throughout their learning. We always ensure our activities include challenges for all learners, opportunities for children to develop through play and real-life experiences with lots of interaction from adults and peers. We have high expectations of both staff and pupils and always strive to achieve outstanding outcomes, enjoyment for all and a 'living' curriculum that establishes a love of learning for all children.

Our curriculum is organised around the EYFS framework of learning objectives and follows the whole school approach of topic focus and core text centered learning. Please take a look at our comprehensive Medium Term plans to see what our children are learning in each half-term.
