Geography

At Upton, we aspire to engender a love of Geography in our pupils and a fascination for the world around them. Children will generate questions and seek answers about the natural and human aspects of the world; acquiring a knowledge of what makes up the world – key processes, where things are and their place in it. By learning to appreciate similarities and differences across the globe, children will gain perspective.

Geography at Upton is an investigative subject that cultivates an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills. We want our children to be Geographers and build the necessary fieldwork skills, and those transferable to secondary learning.

The key concepts from the National Curriculum are planned progressively and often thread through broader subjects:

  • Location Knowledge
  • Place Knowledge
  • Human and Physical Geography
  • Fieldwork

We make explicit links to Global Learning, especially in the areas of sustainability and world resources; real-world climate issues, inequality and diversity of places and people.
